This large armadillo is recorded in Brazil and Bolivia. It has enlarged scales at the knees and a broad tail base. It lives in lowland tropical rainforest and forest–savanna transition zones and is active at night.
The scales at the knees project markedly, the base of the tail is broad, and the uncovered skin on the head is paler than in other Dasypus species.
It is restricted to lowland tropical rainforest and forest–savanna ecotones. It is nocturnal and is thought likely to be solitary.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
