Sanborn's epauletted fruit bat is marked by white tufts at the base of its ears. A 1979 specimen record extended the known range at that time from northeastern Angola to the Republic of the Congo.
It has white tufts at the base of the ears, and males have tufts on the shoulders. The male caught at Pointe-Noire was just beginning to develop its shoulder tufts.
At Pointe-Noire in the Republic of the Congo, a specimen was netted between 9 and 11 p.m. among palms and shrubs behind the beach.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
