This furnariid is widely distributed in the Brazilian Cerrado and is also recorded in northeastern Paraguay. It occurs in the understory of preserved gallery and riparian forest.
Its plumage varies from dull ochre to ochraceous rufous. The study found no diagnostic color difference between males and females; juveniles have darker-tipped throat and breast feathers.
It uses dense understory in preserved gallery and riparian forests. The authors note that it can be absent from apparently suitable forest sites.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
