The Striated Laughingthrush is a brown, flocking bird with fine white streaks, found in forests of the Himalayan foothills.
It is brown overall, with pencil-thin white streaks across the body, a dark brown crest, and dull rufous wings.
It lives in forest with dense undergrowth and is highly social, moving in flocks. Its calls range from harsh squeaks to hooting notes.
Near Darjeeling it builds a broad, shallow cup nest in a large tree, mainly of moss bound with creeper stems and fern-like plants, and lined with roots and dry grass.
A July nest near Darjeeling contained two very pale blue, unspotted eggs. Eggs from Sikkim and other collections sometimes had tiny dark specks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
