The Blood-eared Parakeet occurs in Venezuela's mountains. Much of its plumage is green, with reddish-brown feathers around the ears; neck and chest patterns differ by subspecies.
Adults are mainly green, with reddish-brown ear-coverts. In P. h. hoematotis, the side-of-neck feathers have brown to gray edges and the chest has gray barring; P. h. immarginata lacks the neck edging and has paler chest barring.
Outside the breeding season it is usually seen in groups of about 3–12 and eats fruits, seeds, and flowers.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
