This large white-bellied rat occurs in mountain regions. It has a long, two-toned tail, and a survey in Vietnam also recorded it on vines in bamboo forest.
Its back is dark brown and its belly is white, with a broad brown stripe on the hind feet. The tail is about one and a half times the body length and sharply two-toned.
A survey on Mt. Tay Con Linh II in northern Vietnam recorded it between 1,300 and 2,200 m. Many records were from the ground, but animals were also found on woody vines in dense bamboo at about 2,000 m.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
