A small white-toothed shrew of the Amami and Okinawa island groups. It builds a dry-leaf nest between stones, and its young travel in a line attached to one another.
An earlier anatomical study reported a body weight of 5–8 g for animals then identified as Crocidura horsfieldi watasei.
For breeding, it makes a roughly 6–7 cm nest of dry leaves in gaps among stones. Before weaning, young grip the tail base of the parent or sibling ahead and move in a line.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
