The Grey-collared Oriole is endemic to Seram in Indonesia’s southern Moluccan Islands. It uses primary forest from lowlands to mountains, foraging from the canopy to the middle storey.
Its upperparts are olive-brown, with a gray collar at the nape. The chest is warm golden-olive, becoming paler toward the belly.
It inhabits lowland and montane primary forest, occurring up to about 1,100 m.
It eats insects and some fruit, foraging alone or in pairs from the canopy to the middle storey. A survey on Seram described it as quiet and inconspicuous.
It has a well-feathered head and a straighter, shorter bill than the sympatric Grey-necked Friarbird.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
