The Red Lark is endemic to South Africa's Northern Cape. A BirdLife South Africa account describes plumage forms associated with dune and clay shrubland habitats.
The dune form is red with little streaking above, while birds in clay shrubland are rufous-brown with fine black streaks. Both have a white supercilium and eye ring; females can be smaller and paler.
Its main habitats in the Northern Cape include red-sand dunes and clay shrubland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
