The Maroon-bellied Sunbird is a small flower-visiting bird found from South Asia through Southeast Asia. Males and females have markedly different colors.
The male has a shimmering green crown, a purple throat, and dark red on the lower breast and belly. The female is much duller, with olive upperparts and yellowish underparts.
It takes nectar and also catches small insects at flowering shrubs and trees. It uses forest edges, mangroves, gardens, and parks, so sightings are not limited to deep forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
