This bird inhabits spinifex grassland and rocky areas in northern Australia, around the southern Gulf of Carpentaria.
White streaks mark the head, neck, and back, and the upperparts are rufous. The document describes males as yellow-brown below and females as a richer reddish-brown.
It uses mature spinifex grassland and rocky areas, searching for seeds and insects around the bases of grass clumps.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
