This large, 28–29 cm woodcreeper is endemic to south Amazonian Brazil. Its long tail and finely scaled face are distinctive.
At 28–29 cm, it has a long tail and a medium-length straight bill. Its face has a fine scaled pattern; the crown is rufescent, the back rufous-brown and the underparts dull buff with an olive tinge.
It inhabits humid lowland forest up to about 300 m, in both unflooded terra firme and floodplain forest. It prefers primary-forest interiors but may visit edges and old secondary growth. It presumably feeds mainly on arthropods; much of its ecology remains poorly known.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
