The northern naked-tailed armadillo has bands of armor on its back but no protective plates on its tail. It digs with large claws and feeds mainly on insects.
Eleven bands of armor cross its back, while its tail lacks the protective plates covering the body. It has large claws on both the forefeet and hindfeet, with an especially large, sickle-shaped middle claw.
It feeds almost entirely on insects. It digs into soil and termite mounds, then uses its long, extendable tongue to take prey from tunnels.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
