A hairy armadillo of dry regions, with fur showing between the plates of its armor. In hot summer weather it stays in burrows and is active at night.
Its armor protects the head, neck, shoulders, back, sides, and rump, with movable bands. More hair than in most armadillos projects between the scales.
In summer it avoids the heat in underground burrows and is nocturnal; in winter it is diurnal. It eats plant material and insects, especially beetles.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
