The Grey Treepie is a crow-family bird with gray, black, and chestnut plumage and a pale underside. Its appearance and Taiwan behavior here refer to the endemic subspecies D. f. formosae; the range describes the species as a whole.
The Taiwan subspecies has a gray bill and head, black forehead, chestnut back, and pale gray rump. Its black wings have a metallic sheen and a white patch.
In Taiwan, small groups are seen in parks, school grounds, farmland, and on hillsides. They eat insects, fruit, and seeds, and several birds may call together.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
