This kingfisher is restricted to Kofiau Island in Indonesia. Its blue head, white body, and long central tail feathers are striking. Little is known about its ecology, and its feeding behavior is presented as probable.
Adults have a blue crown and dark-blue upperparts, with a white rump, underparts, and tail. The central tail feathers extend beyond the others.
It uses lowland primary and tall secondary forest. Its food is poorly known, but it is thought to forage for insects in muddy forest undergrowth.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
