The Mexican deer mouse lives in forests of Central America. Its tail has very little hair, and coat color varies by region and season.
The tail is nearly hairless. The back ranges from pale buff-brown in warmer areas to gray in cooler places; coat color also varies by season and habitat.
It prefers deep forest to forest edges and is often found in burrows beneath fallen logs and among underbrush and tree roots. The authors report that it is not arboreal.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
