This mole was described from the Gaoligong Mountains, spanning western Yunnan in China and northeastern Myanmar. It has velvety black fur, and a terminal tail tuft was recorded in some specimens.
The fur is velvety black and darker dorsally than ventrally. The tail has sparse black hairs; four of the seven examined specimens had a terminal tuft about 1 cm long.
The paper lists mixed broad-leaved forest, closed conifer forest, and rhododendron groves with a thick humus layer as habitats.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
