The Violet-headed Hummingbird is a small hummingbird found locally in humid foothill and lower Yungas forests in Bolivia. Males have violet-blue on the forehead and throat.
It is about 6.5–7 cm long, with a short bill and a large white spot behind the eye. The forecrown is violet-blue, and only males have a violet-blue throat.
Males form small leks in late austral winter and spring, around August to October or November. They sally out to catch flying insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
