This small hummingbird ranges across South America, including Bolivia. Its rufous throat and blue gorget help identify it.
The adult male has a red bill, rufous upper throat, blue gorget, and coppery tail. The female’s blue gorget is smaller.
In Bolivia it is locally recorded at forest edges, gallery forest, and wooded savanna. Detailed behavior is poorly known, though it is reported to feed at low heights.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
