This hummingbird ranges across southern South America. Its plumage shines golden green and its tail is bronze. It takes nectar as well as insects and small spiders.
Adults have iridescent golden-green upperparts and underparts, white thighs and a pale rufous chin. The flight feathers are olive-brown and the rectrices glitter golden bronze. Females are similar but duller overall, with a greenish vent.
It feeds on nectar from native and introduced flowering plants. It also catches insects in flight or from outer vegetation and takes small spiders from webs. It forages around clearings and vegetation edges, hovering at flowers.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
