This duck has a yellow bill and a long neck and tail. The account here describes the subspecies recorded in the Patagonia region.
Its body is mottled brown with ochre tones and a paler underside. The bill is yellow and the legs are gray; the wing has a black patch edged by two pale ochre bands.
It swims in shallow water and sometimes joins groups of other ducks. Its diet is presumed to be plant-based, and it nests in grassland near water.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
