The Nepal Cupwing is known from records in central Nepal. A 2010 field note reports hearing at least four birds in northern India and later observing one individual.
One bird seen near Mangoli was described as nearly unmarked above, with a more streaked than scalloped breast and a very narrow blue-grey eye-ring.
In the same account, one bird responded strongly when the observer played its song and then began singing. The note describes the song as higher and more even in pitch than that of a close relative.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
