This green toucanet occurs in Andean mountain forest. The male has chestnut tips on the central tail feathers, and the birds may move in small groups high in the forest.
The male is dark green above and paler green below. The nape may be blue-toned, the central tail feathers have chestnut tips, and the dark bill has a white line at its base.
It forages mainly in the canopy of humid subtropical mountain forest. It is usually alone or in pairs, though small groups are also reported.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
