This small flycatcher is endemic to the eastern Brazilian highlands. It uses rocky or shrubby grassland and catches insects while clinging to long grass stems.
It has a gray crown, short white supercilium, white eye-ring, and a partly concealed white crown patch. The upperparts are brownish gray, the underparts reddish, and the wings show whitish bars.
It inhabits highland grassland with rocks or scrub and forages for insects while clinging to long grass stems; it rarely feeds on the ground. Nesting information is sparse. One available summary records a small cup of rootlets and moss, one or two eggs, and a July–September breeding period.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
