An owl endemic to Rote Island, Indonesia. A 2010 field study recorded it in dry woodland and around settlement trees.
The upperparts are spotted, with barring on the primaries, rump, upper tail coverts, and tail.
Observers recorded calling and perched pairs in dry karst woodland, near mangroves, and in trees by farms, villages, and rice fields.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
