Adults have a white head, neck, and body, a wedge-shaped tail, and a large pink bill. Juveniles are mostly dark and gain more white plumage as they age.
It eats fish, squid and other cephalopods, and jellyfish. It usually breeds every two years, with both parents incubating the egg and raising the chick.
