Known male specimens have an iridescent blue-green head and back, a blue-purple breast band with a narrow red band, and yellow pectoral tufts. Records are limited to the Marungu Highlands of south-eastern DR Congo; none has been documented in the wild since 1931.
Breeding males have a golden-iridescent blue-green head and back, a blue rump, a purple-blue breast band, a narrow red band, and yellow pectoral tufts. Females are mainly olive-colored.
Reported habitat includes montane forest, thickets, and fields near rivers or streams at elevations of at least 1,900 m. Wild diet, movements, and breeding behavior are not documented, so the specimen record cannot support a detailed life history.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
