The Ornate Pitta occurs on Indonesia’s Lesser Sundas. It is more frequent at forest edges and in selectively logged forest, with striking blue-green and reddish-buff plumage.
A reddish-buff stripe on the black head becomes white and then pale blue behind the eye. The back is dark green, the rump turquoise, the underparts cinnamon-buff, with a black belly patch and red vent. Sexes are similar; juveniles are duller with less blue.
Although it uses varied habitats, the account says it is more frequent at forest edges and in selectively logged forest, and can occur in small habitat patches.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
