This ovenbird occurs in palm groves of northern and central South America and searches among palm fronds for arthropods.
It has fine black-and-white stripes on the face and throat, chestnut upperparts, and a barred undertail. Males and females look alike.
It moves acrobatically over palm fronds and leaf bases, taking arthropods. An article abstract reports stick nests placed in Mauritia palm fronds.
