A large eagle of open steppe and semidesert, migrating between Eurasian breeding grounds and wintering areas in Africa and Asia.
It has dark brown plumage, a yellow gape, and broad wings.
During migration and winter, it may gather at predictable feeding places such as carcass sites and landfills.
