This Central African weaver searches for insects in the canopy of lowland forest. The adult male has a bright red crown patch; the female does not.
The adult male has glossy black plumage and an oval scarlet patch on the crown. Females lack the patch, while juveniles have a pale chestnut crown patch.
It occurs in lowland primary forest and also in swamp forest or mature secondary forest. It forages for insects, eggs and larvae in the canopy, sometimes in mixed-species flocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
