This rat lives in arid Australia. Its numbers can rise after wet periods and then fall as food and water decline.
Long pale gray-brown fur is interspersed with long black guard hairs that project beyond the coat. Its ears and tail are dark gray, and the tail is shorter than the head and body.
It is nocturnal and shelters by day in complex burrow systems or shallow temporary burrows. After extended rain or floods, it may breed and disperse rapidly, then decline as food and water diminish.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
