The lesser bamboo bat roosts in gaps between bamboo internodes. It is a small bat with a flattened body and feeds on insects at night.
The upperparts are brown to reddish brown, while the underside is paler and usually tinged orange. Its head and body are flattened, with large disc-shaped pads at the base of the thumb and on the feet.
It is nocturnal and insectivorous, roosting in small groups in bamboo internodes. It enters and leaves through small slits made by beetles.
