The White-fronted Chat occurs across southern Australia, including Tasmania, from Shark Bay to the Queensland–New South Wales border. It uses damp, open places with low vegetation.
Males have a white face, breast and belly crossed by a black breast band. Females have similar gray-brown markings and a narrower band; it is faint or absent in some immatures.
It runs along the ground picking up small insects. Flocks of around 20 may gather where insects temporarily become abundant.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
