The species has been recorded in forests in northeastern Australia. A 2025 study examined fur from one young male collected on the Atherton Tablelands, and a camera survey reported in 2026 recorded the species in reference forest and restored corridors.
Fur from one young male collected on the Atherton Tablelands glowed vivid pink under 395–410 nm ultraviolet-violet light. The belly glowed uniformly pink, while brindled flank hairs had magenta bases and yellowish tips.
A 2022–2023 camera survey in the tropical uplands of northeastern Queensland recorded the species in reference forest and in three restored wildlife corridors.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
