Chestnut on the head, neck, rump, and lower belly contrasts with the otherwise black body. The tail is yellow with dark central feathers; the bill is ivory to yellowish and the eye blue.
It uses lowland habitats from rainforest to roadside trees and forages mostly high in the canopy, moving quickly along branches. Its diet includes fruit, nectar, insects, frogs, and lizards.
