The white-bellied akodont is a small rodent of the Andean highlands. Its grizzled-grey back contrasts with a white belly, and most records come from 3,000–4,500 m.
Its short, coarse fur is pale grizzled grey, with brown and whitish hair tips. The belly is snowy white; the short tail is brown above and white along the sides and below.
It has been recorded in semi-arid highlands, grassland, and shrubland. Several studies cited in the account report activity by day or mostly by day.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
