A slender reddish-brown dove with different plumage in males and females, ranging from the Moluccas to the New Guinea region.
Adult males are reddish brown with green or pink iridescence along the neck feathers. Females lack that iridescence and show stronger barring.
It eats small fruits, seeds, and nuts, feeding from the middle storey to the canopy in primary forest. It is usually alone or in pairs, sometimes in small groups.
