This parrot from extreme southwestern Australia has a red head and purple-blue underparts in the male. Its elongated upper bill helps dislodge large marri seeds.
The male has red from the forehead to the nape and purple-blue underparts. The female is duller overall, with green feathers scattered through the red crown.
It eats seeds and fruits of marri and other eucalypts, as well as flowers, leaf buds, insects, and larvae. Groups of young birds may travel while searching for food.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
