Hodgson's Frogmouth is a nocturnal bird that rests motionless by day, blending with tree bark, and catches insects at night with its wide gape. The sexes have different plumage colors.
Males are gray-brown and females rusty brown, both with fine markings resembling lichen-covered bark. The male's pattern is especially bark-like.
It roosts motionless and upright in trees by day and sallies from perches for large insects at night. It is sedentary.
It builds a small nest on a branch, usually with two eggs. The male incubates during the day.
Its food includes moths, beetles and other large insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
