The upperparts are dark umber brown, while the ventral fur is slate gray tipped with white. The original description calls it a medium-sized member of Peromyscus.
The original specimens were collected in cloud forest in Guatemala’s Sierra de los Cuchumatanes. At the time of publication, the species was known only from its type locality, though the authors suggested it might occur elsewhere in the range.
