The Gorgeted Puffleg was described from a small area in Colombia's Serranía del Pinche. Its iridescent violet-blue and green gorget and white leg puffs are striking.
The male has a blackish-green head and a large iridescent gorget with a violet-blue center and green sides. White feather tufts cover the legs, and the blue-black tail is forked.
The original description links it to cloud forest and low, elfin forest around 2,800 m. The species account identifies it as a nectar-feeding hummingbird.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
