The Sapphire-vented Puffleg is a hummingbird with white feathered leg puffs and a long, forked blue-purple tail. It lives in Andean cloud forest and may visit hummingbird feeders where they are available.
It is mostly green, with a small white spot behind the eye and blue tones on the forehead and throat. Its long, dark blue-purple tail is forked, and fluffy white feathers surround the legs.
It lives in Andean montane forest, especially the cloud-forest belt. Where people provide hummingbird feeders, it readily comes to them.
The account notes that the form in Peru has coppery tones on the nape.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
