The Slaty-backed Flycatcher lives in hilly and montane forest, and males and females have different plumage.
The male is slate blue-gray above and orange below. The female is brown, with a faint tan wash on the upper breast and rufous tones on the tail.
It uses hilly and montane forest and usually sallies out to forage near clearings, edges, and trails, around the middle levels of the forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
