A 2024 taxonomic study places the nominate form from southern Somalia through Kenya to north-eastern Tanzania, and subspecies gallarum in Ethiopia. It cautions that range boundaries remain uncertain and separates the Kidepo form as another species.
The study describes the Corypha lark complex, which includes this species, as 16–23 cm long, streaked above and on the breast, with reddish panels on the flight feathers. These are complex-level traits, not marks identified as unique to this species.
The paper describes open, savannah-like habitat for the Corypha complex. It reports wing-clapping during song in the nominate form; one observed bird rose about 1 m and then descended with its wings raised and beating slowly.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
