The Persian Shearwater is a seabird with a dark upper surface set against a white underside. Breeding has been recorded in southern Arabia and around Socotra, while seasonal records have also been reported off East Africa.
In nominate-subspecies specimens examined in Kenya, the breast lacked patches, the flanks had dense brown streaks, and dark areas were visible on the inner wing.
On Socotra, birds were observed sitting on eggs in July 2001, and fledglings were recorded in November. The local breeding season may therefore extend from July to November.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
