This hummingbird is recorded along Colombia's Pacific coast. In a 19th-century account the male has a blue head and throat, while the female has a coppery back. It feeds on nectar and visits flowering mangroves.
In John Gould's historical description, the male has a deep-blue head and throat, golden-green upperparts, blue-green to bronzy-green underparts, and a white central streak on the belly. The female has coppery upperparts and dull-white underparts flecked green on the breast and flanks.
It feeds on nectar. A species account from Colombia’s Pacific coast reports visits to flowering mangroves and also records the bird in fields and at forest edges.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
