This bunting breeds in the mountains of Central Asia and moves toward northwestern India outside the breeding season. It gathers in flocks and searches for food on the ground during that period.
The breeding male has a conspicuous white crown with black and chestnut markings on the face and breast. Females and young birds are more subdued and brown-toned.
Outside the breeding season it forms flocks and searches on the ground for seeds and insects.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
