This tenrec has a dark brown back, a grayish underside, and a long tail. It searches for prey on the ground in Madagascar’s forests.
Its back is covered with short, dense dark-brown fur, while the underside is gray with a reddish-buff tone. Its tail is long, often slightly longer than its body.
It forages on the ground and has been observed digging through leaf litter and around roots for prey. It can also climb among branches; the detailed foraging observations include captive animals.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
